Description Of Work:

We had an upper story 5 x 10 deck approximately 16' up that was rotten including rotten cantilevered boards under our bedroom floor. Wes came out in Jan. 07 and estimated the price of the original sized deck and removing and hauling off the old deck, as well as including alternate larger sizes if we wanted to go that way. What impressed me most was that not only did he provide a detailed estimate, he also provided references which included photos of other jobs.

We waited a few months to do the job (were not in a rush and it was winter), but since it was a smaller job, Wes fitted us in during April. The job was completed in the time estimated which included cementing 16' cedar support posts, cedar deck and rails, and black galvanized spindles which really make the deck look classy. It went from an eye sore to a beautiful addition to the house. Since then we have added a beautiful new sliding glass door to our bedroom which makes a world of a difference. We actually use the deck now! We highly recommend Wes and his crew and would hire him for another job in the future.

Built full screened in porch with pitched roof, from the ground up. Deck and porch was made of cedar, with bead-board ceiling, and ceiling fan. Roof matched existing house roof, they installed gutters, matched existing house siding perfectly. They worked with us as far as the design of the porch, and did exactly what we wanted.

Wes Barber showed up and gave us the estimate within just a couple of days of our inquiring. The work was started within the time frame he gave us, and the crew who built our deck/screened porch was great! They showed up on time every day, each day when they left it was neat and clean. We knew from the estimate they would use good materials, but even expecting that, the biggest surprise was the quality of both the materials and the work! We've had screened porches before, and this is by far the best we've ever had! They used gorgeous cedar - really high grade! The posts were 6 x 6, not the 4 x 4, or even 2 x 4's I've seen on other decks. They did an incredible job - the door fit perfectly, and even unseen details, like they lined the floor joists with screening before they put on the floor boards, so no bugs can get in that way! We DEFINITELY will use them again, because they built the best porch I've ever had or seen!

Description Of Work:

They removed a twenty-seven year-old cedar deck of about 350 square feet, hauled it away and replaced it with a new one of the same size. Some minor modifications were needed due to changes in codes and improvements in building practices. We had several estimates, and theirs was towards the high end but not the highest. They asked for 50% when the contract was signed, but settled on about 30%. We called some of their references and got good reports. The total cost of $15,000 includes sales tax, building permit, and the cost for a small amount of lumber we kept for benches/plant stands. Those items added about $1,100 to their bid, and it would have been nice to know approximately what that amount was when we signed the contract.

Wes, one of the two owners, responded promptly to our request for a bid, came to the house and sized up the project, went over the details we required, and submitted a bid within a couple of days. He explained the current code requirements for materials and changes since our first deck was built. We specified that extra care was needed around the perimeter since we have established gardens, and he wrote that into the contract. The scheduling could have been better, but this is their busy season and they ended up changing dates at our request. The entire project took just three days. They had an excellent crew of young men who worked hard and fast in miserably hot weather. They used good quality cedar for all the surfaces, and the completed deck looks great. Clean-up was thorough.
